OUR MATERIALS

ÖUGIE uses only 14k gold and natural diamonds. Our gold is not plated, not filled, and not vermeil because we believe jewelry is an investment and should never have an expiration date by tarnishing or fading over time. We are proud to only use diamonds that are conflict-free, fair trade, and abide by The Kimberly Process. We take pride in working with suppliers that are honest, ethical, and operate using safe and fair labor practices.

QUALITY + EDUCATION

WHAT IS 14K GOLD?

A karat (k) is the measurement of purity. Pure gold is 24k gold, which is generally too soft to use in most types of jewelry as it can lose shape and wear down. 14k means there are 14 parts pure gold and 10 parts of what is called an alloy, which is a mixture of other hard metals. This blend gives us our final material that is durable enough to sustain a lifetime of daily wear by you and beyond.

14k gold is resilient, hypoallergenic, anti-tarnish, and does not include harsh chemicals. To be certified as 14k, the amount of gold must always remain at 58%. Our pieces are always pridefully stamped with the seal of 14k.

WHY 14K GOLD?

TO CREATE HEIRLOOMS

By definition, an heirloom is a valuable object that has been passed along for several generations. Bask in the satisfaction of knowing that your investment is something that can be flaunted and adored forever.

GOODBYE GREEN

Repeat after us: no more green fingers. Live in solid gold without worry of your jewels tarnishing from water or regular wear.

FINE VS. FASHION

The markup of fashion jewelry can be alarming and many companies do not disclose the difference between gold plated, gold filled, and gold vermeil. Instead of opting for those lower quality pieces, with a slightly higher investment you can reach the solid 14k mark and your jewels will last forever, as opposed to a long weekend. No need to buy and rebuy your favorite silhouettes.

A NOTE

Born a lover of accessories, my passion for plastic earrings from Claire’s and costume jewelry from my grandma’s jewelry box naturally matured. After years of working in contemporary fashion, with virtually no experience in fine jewelry, I started working for an established jewelry designer. Shortly after being educated on industry practices, I was startled by the realization that I had been buying and re-buying plated and filled jewelry for years, not knowing that with a slightly larger investment I could have those pieces for a lifetime. I (probably literally) ran to my friends to share this news. After throwing out all of my old plated and filled jewelry, which had been in the ever-inevitable tarnishing process, I made it my goal to educate as many people as possible about this phenomenon. ÖUGIE was born.

I believe in luxury, longevity of your investments, and ease-of-wear. There is something fantastic about the process of saving for, choosing, and proudly wearing a piece of fine jewelry. I hope to offer education and the experience of adorning your body to young women and men. To make it attainable, accessible, and important.

Luxury is art, opulence, affluence, enjoyment, a feeling. And honestly, there’s something sensual about the physical weight of being covered in gold… It feels good. Let’s enjoy that. xox
